A Harthal is being observed in the North against the mosque located
within the premises of the Dambulla sacred development zone being relocated.
According to our correspondent the harthal was observed this morning by Muslim communities residing in the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa.
Day to day activity has been hampered by the harthal action. When inquired from the office of the police media spokesperson in this regard it was stated that the harthal was being observed in a peaceful manner & police security had also been provided on its behalf.
Meanwhile, The all Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama and the Muslim council of Sri Lanka urge the Muslim Community not to be misled by forces out to destroy the cordial relationship between the Muslim and Buddhist communities by engaging in violent protests or demonstrations over the Dambulla mosque incident.
However views regarding the situation in Dambulla were expressed during two separate media briefings which were held today.
Political bureau member of the National Freedom Front Piyasiri Wijenayaka attending the meeting organised by the NFF stated that any & all solutions offered on behalf of issue should be interceded by the president.
Meanwhile speaking at a media briefing organised by the Socialists people's front, Senior minister Professor Thissa Witharana mentioned that everyone should be cautious to not create partitions within the country.
