The All Island Bakery Owners Association has decided to increase the price of a loaf of bread by 3 rupees with effect from midnight.

The Chairman of the Association N.K. Jayawardene speaking to our news team stated that this decision was finalized subsequent to a meeting held among members of the All Island Bakery Owners Association.

He also added that bakery owners incur a very high production cost with the increase in prices of wheat flour.

However, a loaf of bread is sold at 55 rupees in some areas in the country at present, while in several other places a loaf of bread is retailed at 50 rupees.

The Chairman of the All Island Bakery Owners Association stated that however it has been decided to increase the price of bread by only 3 rupees in all bakeries islandwide.
