Over 10,000 police officers have been deployed in lieu of the many May Day Rallies being held in Colombo and other areas.

The Police Media Unit stated that the officers will be in uniform and civil.

Meanwhile, special traffic arrangements have been out in place in Colombo, Nuwara Eliya and Jaffna.

The police stated that several roads in Colombo will be blocked off completely or traffic limited after 12 noon today due to the SLFP May Day Rally in Colombo.

Traffic will be limited on the Borella Junction to Dematogoda Junction and the Kanatte Junction to Mahawatte Junction sections on Baseline Road and from Borella Junction to Maradana Junction on the Borella-Maradana Road.

Meanwhile, traffic will also be limited on Deans Road, Kannangara Mawatha, Ward Place, the Lipton Circle, the Ayurveda Roundabout, Castle Street and Kanatte Road.

Traffic from Torrington Avenue to Mahawatte Junction on the Thimbirigasyaya Road will also be limited.

Sarankara Road, Pamankada Junction, Stafford Avenue and the Kirulapone to Dickman’s Road Junction section of Highlevel Road will be blocked off completely after 12noon due to the JVP May Day Rally in Dehiwela.

Meanwhile, Sirimawo Bandaranayke Mawatha, Jethavana Road, Armour Street Junction, Sumanatissa Mawatha, Sangharaja Mawatha, Technical Junction and St.Bastian’s Road, Mihindu Mawatha and Hulstdorf Road will also be closed due to the Commemoration Ceremony of former President Ranasinghe Premadasa in Hulstdorf.
