President Mahinda Rajapaksa has reassured the country's working community that pledges given to them would be realised.
Initiating a function organised at temple trees this morning to present overdue gratuity payments to SLTB workers, the president noted that the opposition of the country was on a wayward path.
More over, the president had also noted that foreign as well as domestic forces were hell-bent on deposing the current regime.
It was also noted that certain parties were attempting to translate minor incidents into acts of mayhem & destruction.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa placed floral tributes before the statue of T B Illangarathna today, who is considered to be a seminal politician, author and literate.
According to the presidential media unit the function was held before the statue of T B Illangarathna this morning at Nawam Mawatha in Colombo.
A patron of the working class, Illangarathna pioneered the cause in declaring the first of May as a public holiday.
