The special appeal filed by DNA leader Sarath Fonseka against the
verdict of the While Flag case is scheduled to be considered for the
first time today.
That will be before a five-member bench of Supreme Court Judges.
The verdict of the White Flag case was given on 18th November, 2011.
While the White Flag case was heard before a three-member bench of
High Court Judges, two judges sentenced Sarath Fonseka for a
three-year rigorous imprisonment and a 5000 rupee fine over only one
of the charges levelled against him.
However High Court Judge W. T. M .B Waraawaeva freed respondent
Sarath Fonseka from all the three charges the Attorney General had
levelled against him.
However while respondent Sarath Fonseka filed an appeal against the
verdict of the White Flag case, the appeal applications filed by
Sarath Fonseka petitioning for bail for him are also scheduled to be
