The Colombo Port Customs have recovered a stash of priceless diamonds and also arrested the man who attempted to smuggle them to the country yesterday.
The diamonds were sent to Sri Lanka from Greece without customs approval.
A senior spokesperson at the customs stated that the man had attempted to smuggle the diamonds hidden inside air-conditioners and laptops.
The spokesperson added that the value of the diamonds have not been ascertained as yet.
It is however the largest diamond stash recovered by the customs so far.
The man who attempted to smuggle the diamonds was handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, the Airport Customs arrested an Indian national who attempted to smuggle 5 million rupees worth foreign currency out of the country.
Upon questioning it was revealed that the man was attempting to take the notes to Singapore.
