President requests Buddhist to come forward to promote other religions.

President Mahinda Rajapakse has requested all Buddhists to take the initiative to ensure the protection of all religions and a person’s right to practice their faith.

Speaking at a special ceremony to mark one year since the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthiya held under the patronage of the Maha Sangha at Temple Trees yesterday, the President noted that Buddhism gives direction on how to ensure the rights of a person to practice his religion.

The President also requested all religions and nationalities to work together to take the country forward.

President Mahinda Rajapakse also explained the importance of an ethical future generation in order ensure sustainable development in the country.
