Deputy Prime Minister of China Katsuya Okada is due to arrive in the island for a two day tour today on a special invitation by the government of Sri Lanka.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the deputy prime minister will meet several government officials and hold discussions during his visit.
This will be the first visit by a Japanese official to Sri Lanka in several years.
The Ministry also noted that this visit will be an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Bowen will meet Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse today.
