Minister of cooperatives and internal trade Johnston Fernando states that the consumer affairs authority has granted permission to increase the price of a sack of cement by 70 rupees.
Moreover the price of imported milk will also be increased with effect from midnight today.
Accordingly the price of a kilogramme of spray dried imported milk will be increased by 163 rupees.
These were the views expressed in this regard by minister Johnston Fernando during a media briefing held today.
Meanwhile the price of a 12.5 Kg domestic gas cylinder will also be increased by 350 rupees with effect from mid night today.
The minister of cooperatives & internal trade justified this price hike in the following manner.
However the JVP charges that government has over burdened the public yet again 2 days after the observation of May Day.
Chief Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva adds that the government is engaging in an antipathy towards the public.
