President Mahinda Rajapaksa engaged in an inspection tour of the upper Kothmale Hydro power project today.
Japanese deputy Premier Katsuya Okada who is in the island at present is also said to have joined the president during his tour.
The upper Kothmale Hydro power project was initiated under Japanese aid.
At present the power project generates 75 mega watts of electricity.
Once the project is finalised its full output will generate 150 mega watts to the national grid.
At present around 96% of the work at the upper kothmale power project has been completed.
Meanwhile president Mahinda Rajapaksa during his tour also declared open a sluice gate which is intended on fortifying the St. Clair waterfall.
