The Chairman of the Raththota Pradeshiya Sabha Don Jayasinghe states that a road in the area which comes under the purview of relevant local government authority is currently being constructed devoid of him being notified.
According to Jayasinghe the stretch of road which runs from Nikolaya to Habaragala is being constructed without then approval of the Raththota Pradeshiya sabha.
Around 25 million rupees has been estimated for the development of a 3 km stretch along this road. It is also reported that a limited number would only benefit from its construction.
These were the views expressed to our news team by the Chairman of the Raththota Pradeshiya.
Our news team inquired from Deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayaka who is incidentally the Chairman of the Raththota Provincial Development Committee if he or the Raththota Development Committee had been notified concerning any road developments in the area.
However Central Province UNP Provincial Councillor Sanjeewa Kavirathna states that there are several incongruities surrounding the construction of this road stretch.
It is still unclear as to who funds this project or in which manner the required financial subsidies are obtained.
Kavirathna stated that while there remained several roads in the area which should be given higher priority, it is quizzical as to why this particular road alone is being treated with such preference.
Our news team contacted the acting chairman of the road development authority R W Premasiri.
He stated that many road development activities are taking place in the country and he will look into this project weather it is such a project.
