President Mahinda Rajapakse states that everyone should come together to inculcate moral values in the future generation and nurture good citizens.
The President made this request during the opening ceremony of the “Buddha Rashmi” Vesak Zone yesterday which is being organized jointly by the Presidential Secretariat and the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple.
The President noted that regardless of nationality or religion, every child should be brought up with the proper values.
His Excellency also stated that the efforts and fervour of the youth of the country to engage in religious observances is a positive sign for the future.
Meanwhile, speaking at the ceremony Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe stated that if one follows the teachings of Buddhism accurately, leading a successful life is not a difficult task.
The Opposition Leader also noted that he appreciates the entire country coming together to commemorate Vesak regardless of race, religion or political preference.
