Political sources indicate that elections will be held in the Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern Provincial Councils in September this year.
It has been reported that Chief Ministers of these provincial councils are due to write to President Mahinda Rajapakse requesting for these councils to be dissolved and elections held.
We spoke to Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Maheepala Herath regarding this.
In response he stated that he has not decided to make such a request so far and added that his provincial council’s term would end in August this year.
We also attempted to contact the Chief Ministers of the North Central and Eastern Provinces regarding this matter but were unable to get through.
