Chairman of the COPE Committee Senior Minister Dew Gunasekera states that if the CID and the Bribery and Corruption Commission does not probe the COPE report accurately the heads of these institution will be summoned before the COPE committee.
The Senior Minister expressed these views during his responsorial address in parliament yesterday during the COPE report debate yesterday.
Speaking further on this occasion the Chairman pointed out that the recommendations of the COPE Committee had become important for removing the chairpersons of six Government Institutions.
The Senior Minister also noted that as a result of the 'pay as you earn' tax of employees of 28 State Institutions being paid through government funds 2500 million rupees was lost annually.
He added that while the COPE Committee investigated 229 Government Institutions this time, it was also possible to summon several institutions that had never appeared before the COPE Committee earlier.
