Sri Lankan ambassador to Belgium Ravinath Ariyasinghe states that he is due to assume duties as Sri lanka's Permanent UN representative to the UN on the 1st of July.
Speaking to our news team via telephone, Ariyasinghe noted that he had already received his appointment letter in this regard.
With the assumption of duties in his new capacity Ariyasinghe will cease to act as Sri Lanka's ambassador to Belgium.
He has been instated as Sri Lanka's permanent representative to the UN subsequent to Tharamara Kunanayakam being vacated from her post.
Meanwhile according to the Ministry of External Affairs, Thamara Kunanayekem has been appointed as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Cuba.
Ravinath Ariyasinghe who has been a seasoned journalist for over 8 years
initially joined Sri Lanka's diplomatic corps serving as the country's vice ambassador to New Delhi & Washington as early as 1998.
He further served as one of Sri Lankas Foreign Ministry spokespersons during tenure of late Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar. Ravinath Ariyasinghe is a former alumni of Ananda College Maradama.
Moreover Thamara Kunanayakam who was appointed as Sri Lanka's permanent representative to the UN for a two Year tenure was re-assigned within 9 months of her service.
Ravinath ariyasinghe will be Sri Lanka's 4th representative appointed for the post within a 3 year period.
Meanwhile our news team sought the views of Senior-Attorney at law Dr. Prathibha Mahanama-Hewa who is a Commissioner at the Sri lanka Human Rights Commission in this regard, inquiring as to whether Sri Lanka would be affected during the next sitting of the UN human rights council owing to multiple appointments being made.
