An individual sustained injuries subsequent to being shot at during a fire exchange that occurred between Wildlife Authorities and illegal poachers who trespassed the Wasgamuwa National Park.

According to the Police Media Unit the injured is now receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital.

Meanwhile, one individual who was involved in illegal poaching has been taken into custody by the Wildlife Officials.

The Police Media Unit further added that these individuals had poached the grounds of the national park to engage in illegal gem mining activities.
