Employees attached to the North Western sector of the Sri Lanka Transport Board have launched a 'fast unto death' campaign by climbing over to the roof of their office premises requesting for the removal of Nimal Abeysiri, who incidentally the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Transport Union.
Protesters allege that the General Secretary of the SLFTU had embezzled member funds and had eschewed his responsibilities as a fellow trade unionist.
These were the views expressed by one of the protesters occupying the roof of the SLTB's North Western sector.
Similar views were echoed by yet another protester engaged In the 'fast unto death' campaign.
Meanwhile repeated attempts made by our news team to contact the General Secretary of the SLFTU Nimal Abeysiri proved futile, since he was not present at his office.
Attempts made to contact him via his mobile phone were also to no avail. Finally when his home phone was contacted the wife of Nimal Abeysiri stated that he was out of Colombo.
However the Sri Lanka Freedom Transport Union which is being charged at present with various allegations was a former protégé of the Sri Lanka Nidahas
