Minister of External Affairs Prof. G L Peiris left the island around 3:15 this morning for the United States on board an Emirates flight.
A senior spokesperson for the ministry confirmed that the Minister will engage in a 4 day tour on an invitation extended by the US State Department.
Prof G L Peiris will hold special discussions with the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during his visit which will focus mainly on the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission’s report.
The Minister will also meet representatives of congress and the senate.
The Sri Lankan delegation will also include President’s Secretary Lalith Weerathunga, MP Namal Rajapakse, MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardana and Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa.
