4 people who were engaged in treasure hunting yesterday in the Medawachchiya and Ambanpola areas have been arrested.
The Mahawa police arrested 7 individuals in the Ambanpola – Nelumpathwewa forest while digging for treasure and they have been produced before the Mahawa Magistrate today.
Meanwhile 7 more were arrested in the Medawachchiya – Thalgahawewa area by the Medawachchiya police for treasure hunting and the arrested are scheduled to be produced before the Anuradhapura magistrate today.
However the Jathika Hela Urumaya states that the law has not been enforced properly with regards to the theft at the National Museum and treasure hunts.
