The Health Department has decided to introduce a new vaccine for birth control.

The Ministry of Health has issued a statement to stop using the vaccine Depo-Provera which is currently used in Sri Lanka.

Directress of the Family Planning Bureau Dr. Deepthi Silva stated that the decision to ban the use of Depo-Provera was due to the allergic reactions and complications which arose from its use.

Dr. Silva further went on the state that the new vaccine will be imported from Belgium and that a batch of the new vaccine has already been brought to the island and that it will be distributed to Family Planning Clinics.
