The UNP and the TNA have sent a combined letter to the Government with regard to the parliamentary select committee for a political solution.
The decision to send the combined letter had been taken after a discussion held between Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and a group of TNA representatives yesterday.
The Government had day-before-yesterday responded to the proposal the Opposition Leader had made about the Select Committee's agenda.
A senior UNP spokesman said that the Government's response had been extensively discussed at yesterday's meeting.
Accordingly several proposals aimed at creating an environment conducive for the opposition's participation at the parliamentary select committee have been included in the letter addressed to the Government yesterday.
Revalidation of the 17th Amendment to the Constitution, and implementation of proposals in the LLRC Report accepted by all sections are among the suggestions included in the letter.
The Opposition leaders hope that the Government will respond to the combined letter today.
The UNP and the TNA are scheduled to disclose their position with regard to the participation in the parliamentary select committee based on Government's response.
