President Mahinda Rajapaksa notes that Sri Lanka has emerged as a country
free of restrictive tethers.
Gracing the 3rd victory day celebrations held at Galle Face Green this morning president Rajapaksa went onto to say that the country had been emancipated from it's 30 year old war, there by liberating it from the clutches of terrorism.
Today's victory day celebrations were held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
During the ceremony 13 soldiers, a Naval personnel as well as an Air Force personnel who had been killed during active duty were awarded the 'Parama Vibhooshana' medal posthumously.
Subsequently the following views were expressed by the president.
Meanwhile the president also noted that at the end of the war, Sri Lanka had arrived at the epoch of unprecedented future opportunity.
President Rajapaksa stated that Sri Lanka anticipates the assistance of the
international community in attaining its development goals.
Meanwhile the war hero's commemoration ceremony was observed this evening before the commemorative monument located adjacent to the parliamentary complex. The function was presided over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
