The department of prisons states that a special discussion regarding the future course of action regarding its LTTE inmates will be held next Tuesday.
According to a senior spokesperson a preliminary discussion in this regard was held this afternoon.
2 Members of the Tamil National Alliance, several prisons department officials and several officials from the ministry of rehabilitation & prison reforms are said to have taken part in today's discussions.
However a discussion in this regard had not been reached today.
Officials representing the Attorney Generals department, Police & Prisons department and several legal specialists are due to partake in next Tuesdays meeting.
A final decision regarding the expedient legal processing of these detainees as well as their rehabilitation will be reached upon during Tuesday's meeting.
Meanwhile a group of LTTE detainees who were held at the Colombo Remand Prison engaged in a hunger strike. They demand for expedient legal processing.
Moreover the hunger strike launched by the LTTE detainees of the Vavuniya prison is still in effect.
Currently around 200 LTTE detainees are being held at various prison complexes located throughout the island.
