President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that Sri Lanka was regaining its place as an economic and trade hub of the region.
The President was addressing the 12th session of the Doha Economic Conference.
During the address the President stated that Sri Lanka, which had been subjected to a 30-year terrorist threat, was getting ready to re-establish itself as the economic and trade hub in the region.
The President said that the Government was committed to empower people
economically and to achieve permanent peace through reconciliation.
President Rajapakse travelled to Doha Qatar on an invitation from the Emir of Qatar Sheik Hamad bin Kalifaa Altaani.
The President was received at the Qatar International Airport by a group of Foreign Ministry personnel and Sri Lankan Ambassador in Qatar Jayanta Palipana and his embassy staff.
