The United National Party is to submit a proposal to parliament today requesting for complete freedom to be granted to leader of the Democratic National Alliance Sarath Fonseka who was freed from prison yesterday.

The party’s central working committee that met last evening endorsed this decision.

Leader of the UNP Ranil Wickremasinghe informed the central working committee that Sarath Fonseka should be given his pension, emeritus ranks and medals that he was previously stripped of.

The proposal will be submitted as a private MP submission to parliament today.

Meanwhile a comprehensive report on the damage done to the party by the actions of Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa was submitted by UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayaka.

The UNP central working committee also decided to call for explanations from 6 members including Karu Jayasuriya regarding their non participation at the joint opposition May Day Rally held in Jaffna.

Meanwhile, speaking at a public meeting in Mahiyanganaya UNP MP Harin Fernando stated that the UNP should work together and obtain the assistance of Sarath Fonseka to gain governing power.
