The US State Department Report for the year 2011 arraigns Sri Lanka over enforced & involuntary disappearances.
However the State Department Report also notes that such disappearances
have declined as opposed to the previous year.
The reports states that many of these abductions are politically motivated, while some are deduced to be connected to acts of extortion & other criminal activity.
It also highlights the lack of a proper accountability mechanism in this regard.
The report goes onto say that the situation in prisons are further deteriorating, while also noting that issue persist in the gamut deprived civil liberties.
However in conclusion the US State Department Report notes that civilian movement in the country has been enhanced to a much more gratifying extent within 2011, as opposed to 2010.
