The programme implemented to educate bus drivers & conductors on the mitigation of accidents commenced from Nuwara Eliya today.

The programme is conducted under the auspices of the National Transportation commission.

Due to the increase in public transport related accidents around 8% of commuters have refrained from utilising public transport this year, as opposed to the year before.

Accordingly this programme has been implemented taking into account this situation.

These were the views expressed by the Chairman of the National Transportation Commission Roshan Gunawardhana in this regard.

Meanwhile Chief Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Federation Anjana Priyanjith has requested of the National Transportation Commission to focus its attention on the qualitative aspect of semi luxury bus services.
