The Geological and Mines Bureau says that in the future a limited number of permits will be granted for hunting for gold that had suddenly surfaced in the Kelani river.

As a result of gold being found on either side of the Kelani River where it falls at Kumaaramulla in Poogoda, the residents had been engaged in searching for gold day and night.

Due to this, this area had been declared  a forbidden zone.

However Geological and Mines Bureau Chairman Dr. N. G. Wijeyananda told our news team that the very residents of the area concerned were taking action to be engaged in gold mining.
