The Ceylon Electricity Board employees engage in a token strike this
afternoon.

CEB combined Trade Union Alliance Working Committee member Ranjan
Jayalal told our news team several factors including the non-regarding
of all employees the same way in  the salary revision is the basis for
this trade union action.

He said that if the authorities do not provide solutions in response
to the token strike it would be turned into a strike.

The CEB issuing a communiqué to the Media with regard to this said
that all steps have been taken to continue the uninterrupted supply of
electricity, an essential service, without any obstruction.

The communiqué also states that a committee bringing together all
trade unions has been appointed for solving the problems of the
employees concerned.
