Poson, held on the full moon day of June, commemorates the occasion over 2,000 years ago when Arahat Mahinda, son of Emperor Asoka of India arrived in Mihintale and converted King Devanampiyatissa to Buddhism.
Hiru TV and Hiru FM as the national broadcaster of this year’s Poson Festival have taken all necessary measures to bring to life this historic occasion on a radio or television near you.
Accordingly, Hiru TV and Hiru FM will broadcast the festivities from Mihintale to Sri Lankans islandwide for three days from tomorrow.
Mihinthalawata Hiru will feature many religious rites and poojas.
Meanwhile, the Poson Mihindu Perehera will also be telecast live tomorrow night on Hiru TV.
We spoke to Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Viharaya Ven.Valawahangunuwewe Dhammarathana Thero about the preparations for Mihinthalawata Hiru and the State Poson Festival.
