The Public Health Inspectors Union states that 3653 alms stalls which had been established in lieu of Poson were inspected this afternoon.
According to the Deputy Secretary of the PHIU C.S. Muthukuda 16 alms stalls which had been operated below the required standards of hygiene had been identified during the island wide inspection which was carried out today.
Moreover 1434 temporary eateries located adjacent to sacred sites were also subject to inspection today. 14 out of these eateries had been identified as hazardous to human health.
The PHIU states that legal action will be taken against the proprietors of these
institutions in future.
