UNP withdraws Parliamentary motion concerning Sarath Fonseka

The United National Party Parliamentary Group has decided to withdraw the members motion which it was due to present before the house today concerning Leader of the Democratic National Alliance Sarath Fonseka.

This decision had been arrived during the parliamentary group meeting which took place under the leadership of opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning.

The motion which was included in today's parliament agenda, called upon the government to re-instate Sarath Fonseka with his usurped political rights & was due to be read out by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Subsequently the opposition leader had notified the UNP Parliamentary group through party MP Lakshman Kiriela, to abstain from presenting the motion before parliament.

Accordingly Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga stated that the UNP had refrained from presenting motion.
