The Commonwealth today said it has offered support to Sri Lanka to promote reconciliation in the country.
President Mahinda Rajapakse met Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma yesterday and held discussions.
Commonwealth spokesman Richard Uku told the PTI that encouraged Sri Lanka to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission report.
The Commonwealth also noted that the government of Sri Lanka has prepared a roadmap for prioritizing implementation of the LLRC recommendations.
Uku added that Sri Lanka was aware that the Commonwealth had considerable expertise in areas such as “promoting reconciliation between communities, constitutional and legal assistance, strengthening the capacity of national human rights organisations, and advising on models of devolution and local government”.
