Sworn in MP refuses to hoist national flag

It is reported that Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy had been reluctant to hoist the National Flag when he was invited to do so by Minister of Social Services Felix Perera at a function held in Jaffna yesterday.

An event was held at Veerasingam Hall in Jaffna yesterday to distribute livelihood assistance for poverty stricken citizens in the North.

According to sources at the commencement of the ceremony Minister of Social Services Felix Perera had invited Jaffna District TNA Parliamentarian Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy to hoist the National flag.

However, Vinayagamoorthy who had refused to hoist the national flag defended his actions in the following manner when contacted by our news team.

Meanwhile these were the views expressed by Minister Felix Perera in this regard.

According to Commissioner of the national human rights council senior attorney at Law Dr. Prathibha Mahanamahewa, such actions by a parliamentarian may result in his negation of his parliamentary seat.

Moreover Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi also commented on the incident.
