Several protests are being staged in schools in the Galle District today.

Our reporter indicated that parents are currently staging a protest in front of the Vidyaloka Vidyalaya in Galle.

A parent of a student at Vidyaloka Vidyalaya expressed these views regarding the protest.

Protests are also to be held at Mahinda College, Christ King College and Sangamitta Vidyalaya later today.

The protests are being held since authorities have failed to appoint permanent principals and teachers to these schools.

We spoke to Galle District SLFP MP Nishantha Mutuhettigama regarding today’s protests.

We also spoke to the Lanka Teacher Services Association regarding this matter.

Chairman of the association Joseph Stalin noted that the ministry does not have a proper mechanism for appointing principals to schools.

Meanwhile, the appointment of the principal of the Vidyaloka Vidyalaya has been annulled.

Deputy Minister of Education Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa states that the secretary of the ministry has been instructed to look into other appointments as well.

We also spoke to the Deputy Minister about allegations put forth by MP Nishantha Mutuhettigama and the protests held this morning.
