Minister of Small Export Crops development Reginald Cooray made clarifications before media today concerning allegations which state he was banished from Tamilnadu.
Speaking during a media briefing convened to clarify these accounts the minister categorically denied such an occurrence stating that they were nothing but blatant falsehoods.
The Minister had been accompanied by a group of Ministry officials to inspect sugarcane cultivation in Tamilnadu.
Minister Cooray said that the Indian state government had provided him adequate security from the time the news of a planned protest against him was uncovered and had taken all necessary measures to ensure his safety.
He said the Tamil Nadu police only informed him about the planned protest and assured him that they would do their utmost to protect him and the delegation in any circumstances.
However, the Minister said he decided to return to Sri Lanka as precautionary measure.
Meanwhile responding to a question raised by a journalist as to why a media conference in this regard was delayed the minister had this to say.
