A writ petition has been lodged at the appeal court to issue an order to the Provincial Governor to prevent dissolving the Eastern Provincial Council prematurely.

The petition has requested that action be taken to prevent Provincial Chief Minister Shivanesaturai Chandrakaanthan alias Pillaiyaan from instructing the Eastern Province Governor to dissolve the Provincial Council.

The petition has named Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrema, Eastern Provincial Ministers Navaratnaraajaa, L S Subaseer, Meeraa Sayibu Ulthalu, Wimalaweera Dissanayake and the Eastern Provincial Council as respondents.

The official period of office of the Eastern Province is scheduled to end May 10, 2013.

The petition has been filed by a resident and voter of the Eastern Province.

According to the regulations of the constitution, provincial council dissolutions take place in accordance with the Chief Minister's instructions.
