The Geological & Mines Bureau states that vibrations are being caused due to deliberate underwater explosions which occur at the basin of the Colombo harbour.

The explosions are being caused to increase the depth of the Colombo harbour.

Speaking to our news team Chairman of the GMSB N.P. Wijayananda noted that constructions in Colombo continue to experience vibrations resulting in these explosions.

However he noted that the public should not be alarmed by these vibrations

since their magnitude has not been termed lethal.

Moreover our news team was alerted regarding the occurrence of several such vibrations occurring in Colombo, during the wee hours today.

Chairman of the GMSB N.P. Wijayananda filed these views in reply.

When our news team contacted the Media officer at the SLPA, Nalin Aponsu he stated that these deliberate explosions are being caused to eliminate a rock deposit of around 50 metres lying at the basin of the Colombo South harbour gate.
