It has been reported that the Chilaw outfall is at the risk of being blocked due to the accumulation of sand.
Residential fishermen state that it has become difficult to go out to sea with the outfall being filled up with sand.
For about a month larger fishing vessels have found it difficult to set sail due to sand, despite this outfall from which the water of the Chilaw lagoon and Deduru oya flow into the sea, being used as a fishing port.
When our news team inquired from the chairman of the municipal council Hilary Prasanna, he stated that this problem has been a long term one that appears from time to time.
He further stated that steps have been taken to find a long term solution rather than temporary ones.
