Officers attached to the Consumer Services Authority today raided a spot where expired stacks of cement was being re-packed in a bid to have them sold.
According to a spokesperson from the CSA around 7000 stacks had been craftily placed in a safe house located on Armour Street for resale.
The safe house incidentally belongs to cement corporation.
The CSA had carried out the raid based on a tip-off. Apparatus employed in this racket have also confiscated by the authorities.
Our news team contacted Chairman of the Cement Corporation Sisira Paranagamage in a bid to verify the accusations which are being levelled against it stating that this stock of cement is owned by the corporation.
Meanwhile a consignment of expired cement which had been imported from India had been confiscated by police in the Bandaragama area.
According to the Bandaragama police around 3200 stacks of cement had been located during the raid.
