Randenigala fire destroys 200 hectares before being put out.

Over 200 hectares have been destroyed by the forest fire in the Morayaya area of the Randenigala Forest Reserve that burnt for two days.

The Minipe District Secretary M G A Tillekeratne speaking to our news team confirmed that the fire was put out last night with the help of two army helicopters.

The fire had started and spread due to the dry weather conditions currently being experienced in the area.

The Disaster Management Centre confirmed that 6 forest fires have been reported from several places in the island owing to the dry weather conditions over the last few days.

Deputy Director of the Media Unit of the DMC Sarath Lal Kumara stated that some of these fires were started by arsonists.
