The Ministry of Power & Energy states that the generation of electricity has been hampered due to insufficient rain in catchment areas.
The water levels at reservoirs are said to have reached steep declines while water levels of the reservoirs coming under the purview of the Mahaweli Authority including that of Kothmale, Victoria & Randenigala have declined by more than 50%.
It is also reported that several reservoirs which rely on the water of the Kelani river for power generation have declined in levels.

Moreover a portable water issue has cropped up in several parts of the island due to insufficient rainfall.
According to Nuwara-Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri the issue has caused dire consequences within 4 electorates of the district.
Meanwhile Chairman of the Wilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Jayantha Weerasekara notes that bowsers are being deployed to provide portable water to residents within its jurisdiction.
Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri states that distribution of portable water has commenced within the District at present aided by bowsers due to the dry weather conditions being experienced.
