2000 rupees fine for having maintained environments conducive to dengue

Courts today imposed a fine of rupees 2000 on 19 individuals who had maintained environments conducive to dengue.

The cases had been filed by the Public Health Inspector of the Kotte Municipality.

Colombo District Additional Magistrate Tikiri K. Jayathilleke had ordered the fines be paid when the cases were taken up for examination in court today.

Several doctors as well as government officials had been imposed fines during today's court arbitrations.

The magistrate had noted that if the offenders are proven guilty on a second count regarding the maintenance of conducive environments for dengue, they would be commuted with a 6 month prison sentence.
