The government has warned asylum seekers not to put their lives in danger in search of greener pastures.

The government information department in a statement commented on the most recent boating accident off Christmas Island.

The statement notes that although no Sri Lankans were reported to have been affected by this incident, citizens of any country should not attempt or be provoked into attempting such a hazardous journey.

The statement further notes that although Sri Lanka is sometimes portrayed as a hub of illegal immigration, there is no such conducive environment in the country.
