Police have arrested 6 people in connection with a clash between the clergy and lay community in Waduraba-Galle yesterday.
The police media unit confirmed that two police officers were also hurt during the clash and were admitted to hospital.
A meeting of an association named “Bodu Bala Sena” was held in Waduraba yesterday.
Our reporter in the area stated that 4 people who attended the meeting were arrested by the police.
The organizers of the meeting subsequently attempted to bail out these suspects.
Ven.Galagoda-Aththe Gnanasara Thero expressed these views at the meeting.
Speaking further the Thero also had this to say.
At the conclusion of the meeting the participants staged a protest march against an individual who they allege is spreading false ideologies.
Police had then obstructed the protesters from entering the area where this person lives.
The clash between police and the protesters turned violent and police had to use tear gas to disperse the mob.
