The Supreme Court has ordered today for the GCE A/L 2011 Z Scores to be nullified.
The Supreme Court also ordered The University Grants Commission to recalculate old and new syllabus student’s Z Scores separately.
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by several teacher unions and students who sat the exam alleging that the Z Score calculation was unfair.
The Supreme Court considered this petition today and handed down the verdict.
The Z Score results released last year created quite a controversy and a special committee of Statistics Professors were appointed to ascertain the Z Score.
However, many students refused to accept the Z Score calculated by these experts.
President Mahinda Rajapakse subsequently appointed a committee headed by Secretary of the Ministry of Technology and Research Dara Wijetilleke to also look into this.
General Secretary of the Independent Lanka Teachers Union Jagath Ananda Silva spoke to us regarding the Supreme Court decision.
