A team of officers from the Thalawa Police station have recovered an ancient sword hidden inside a mattress at a house in Thalawa.

The Thalawa Police had received a complaint yesterday that a person living close to the Tissapura Army Camp had an illegal weapon in his possession.

Accordingly, the police officers searched the man’s house and found this sword along with a locally manufactured rifle.

The copper sword is almost two feet long and is adorned with several precious gems.

The owner has claimed that the sword was handed down through generations of his family while archaeology experts have confirmed it to be about 250 years old.
