The daily hydro power output of the country has come down from 25% to 14%.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of power & energy stated that the prevalent dry weather spell has contributed to this situation.

Currently 86% of the national power output is supplied by Thermal Power plants.

According to this, out of the 26 giga watts required daily, only 5.2 giga watts are supplied from hydro power and the rest is supplied by thermal power plants.

Further speaking to our news team the ministry spokesperson stated that if a thermal power plant suffers a malfunction of any sort the power supply activities will face a crisis.

He also stated that if there are going to be power cuts the public would be informed before hand.

Due to the prevalent dry weather and several other factors the Ceylon Electricity Board is facing losses of 6000 million rupees a month.
