The Ministry of Finance has decided to stop exporting rice and paddy till the Maha season harvest has concluded effective from last night.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance stated that this decision was taken due to the dry weather prevalent in the country.

However he stated that there were no restrictions for small scale exporting of rice and paddy, especially rare rice types that are not commonly used in Sri Lanka.
