Farmers engaged in a protest in front of the Giritale Business Authority office today.

These farmers were in protest demanding the balance 4 quotas of water left in the Giritale tank for paddy cultivation.

The protesters’ actions blocked the Giritale road and they later approached the residence of the deputy minister of Land and Land Development Siripala Gamlath and continued their protest.

Our news team inquired about this from the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat Nimal Abeysinghe.

He stated that the Giritale tank was holding only 2000 acre feet of water at the moment and that it was not possible to supply that water for cultivation.

However participating in a ceremony in the Anuradhapura region Minister of Irrigation and Aquatic Resources Nimal Siripala De Silva stated that engaging in protests will not change the weather.
